Sample Letter to Federal Agency



 

THIS IS A SAMPLE LETTER FOR USE BY MONACAN TRIBAL CITIZENS 


To Whom It May Concern:

    I am writing to express my concerns as a Monacan Indian Nation Tribal Citizen regarding our tribal election conducted on June 17, 2023.

    As a concerned tribal citizen, the utmost importance for the Monacan Indian Nation is our self-determination and tribal sovereignty. However, that is being challenged due to the current dispute as to which tribal election will determine the recognized tribal leadership for the Nation. It is crucial that the correct tribal election is acknowledged, ensuring that those newly elected truly represent the Monacan Nation.

    On June 17, 2023, two elections took place, both of which may be submitted to federal agencies for recognition. However, only one of these tribal elections was conducted in accordance with Monacan law. This tribal election, which was properly conducted, open to all, and presented to the Nation through valid tribal forums, should be immediately recognized by all parties involved. This recognition will allow our Nation to move towards unity, and regain our self-determination and tribal sovereignty.
